In this day and age, there are tons of options for improving the appearance of our teeth. One of the top concerns for patients is making sure their teeth stay bright and white. Sometimes, in order to reverse staining or yellowing of teeth, whitening is suggested. Of course, there are a plethora of whitening options out there, one of those being Zoom laser teeth whitening. Not only is it one of the quickest chair-side options, it’s also affordable.
How Does Zoom Laser Whitening Work?
Once you and your dental professional make the decision, based on your circumstances, to use Zoom, a basic teeth cleaning will be suggested before you begin. Once completed, your lips and gums will be prepped in order to be protected from the special laser light used in the Zoom whitening process. A special gel with a mixture of hydrogen peroxide is then applied to the teeth carefully. The special light, or laser, is applied to the teeth for about 15 minutes. During this time, the special gel mixture works with the light to penetrate into the enamel, breaking up and dispersing the stains that have settled deep into the teeth. The entire procedure, from start to finish, takes about an hour and pricing starts at $500 for most dental offices. However, these pricing can vary from provider to provider and should not be relied on for every practice. The overall initial procedure is completed at your dentist’s office however, the cost includes a take-home kit which provides you with all the tools and items needed to keep your teeth touched up over a certain period of time.
The take home kit includes trays that are custom fit which means a mold is taken of your teeth and these trays are made from that mold. This ensures the trays fit to your teeth perfectly and you’re not having to use a universal tray which doesn’t always fit well for the average person. Once these trays are created, your dental professional will have you try them on to ensure they fit properly and don’t need any adjustments.
Whitening toothpastes or rinses may be suggested by your dentist in order for the whitening affects to stay in place after the procedure. There may be some sensitivity right after the procedure and during the procedure. However, this depends on your pain tolerance as many patients reported not really feeling anything. Your dental professional will also suggest that you stay away from certain foods such as coffee, wine, alcohol, and sodas. They may also suggest that you stay away from tobacco and certain foods in order to keep your teeth from staining after the procedure. This procedure does not gurantee teeth will stay white since aging, bad habits, and various other products can cause the natural yellowing of teeth. Zoom only helps remove and whiten teeth from stains that have already occurred but does not stop staining from occurring in the future. Good habits and oral health hygiene must be observed for results to last longer.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, before or after your Zoom laser whitening session, you should consult your dental professional. Most dentists will be glad to offer any information their patient might need in order to get the best experience possible. Zoom will only be suggested if a patient’s mouth and health are in a healthy enough state to undergo the treatment. This decision will be left between you and your dental professional.
